Bursa Malaysia rancang tarik lebih ramai Gen Y melalui ‘Fantasy football’

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened higher today, led by buying interest in heavyweights and penny stocks.

At 9.23 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 6.03 points to 1,726.4, after opening 3.7 points higher at 1,724.07.

HwangDBS Vickers Research said a technical rebound could be forthcoming for Malaysian equities today.

"After plunging 74.7 points or 4.2% since Aug 13, the benchmark FBM KLCI may attempt to recover parts of its losses by pulling a bit further away from the resistance-turned-support level of 1,720 ahead," it said.

Meanwhile, Wall Street’s major indices were up between 0.4% and 1.1% at the closing bell as investors cheered on better economic data.

Back home, the focus will be on the stream of corporate results that came in yesterday evening.

Across Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 2.39% to 13,685.02, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index garnered 0.36% to 21,895.40 and Singapore's Straits Times Index increased 0.26% to 3,097.6.

On Bursa Malaysia, the Plantation Index added 6.46 points to 8,098.07, the Finance Index rose 62.9 points to 16,264.86 and the Industrial Index was up 19.92 points at 2,937.11.

The FBM Emas Index increased 45.77 points to 12,011.85, the FBM100 Index gained 42.8 points to 11,749.62 and the FBM 70 Index advanced 57.08 points to 13,680.78.

Market breadth was positive with gainers leading losers 287 to 80, while 137 counters were unchanged, 1,081 untraded and 18 others were suspended. Turnover stood at 226.550 million shares worth RM141.108 million.

Among actives, MAS inched up one sen to 33.5 sen, YTL Corp added three sen to RM1.60, The Media Shoppe and MQ Technology were both flat at nine sen and 19.5 sen, respectively while AirAsia eased one sen to RM2.73.

Heavyweights, Maybank increased 13 sen to RM10, TNB added six sen to RM8.58, Genting Malaysia rose eight sen to RM4.13, SapuraKencana Petroleum gained three sen to RM3.67 and CIMB was flat at 7.56. - Bernama, August 23, 2013.
