Sime eyeing stronger Singapore presence

Sime Darby Property Bhd, one of Malaysia's largest property developers, is eyeing more new developments in Singapore, especially redevelopment projects, said Datuk Tunku Putra Badlishah Ibni Tunku Annuar, Managing Director of Sime Darby.

"We are constantly looking for new projects but obviously, as you (can) see, the land here is very scarce and expensive, so we are doing more on redevelopment projects. We have old warehouses, we convert them into office buildings — that kind of projects — but we own quite a few buildings in Singapore, so we collect rental," Bernama quoted him as saying.

Tunku Putra Badlishah, who was in the country for the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Awards 2011, noted that Singapore is a good market for the company. "We've been successful in Singapore. We have a team here already, so it makes sense for us to continue looking at Singapore," he said.

Sime Darby Property has clinched the Platinum Green Mark award for its Idea House development, marking the first BCA platinum award in the residential category.

Tunku Putra Badlishah said the development was a prototype project. "It is a research and development project, because (with) all the learning that we got in this project, we will try to implement and incorporate as many features of the Idea House in our products."
