Singapore will have a new army chief starting 21 March of this year as part of the Singapore Army’s “continuing process of leadership renewal”.

Brigadier-General Perry Lim Cheng Yeow, 41, who currently holds the position Chief of Staff-General Staff, will be taking over Major-General Ravinder Singh, 49, the Ministry of Defence said in a press statement on Thursday.

Ravinder has been an army chief since his appointment on 25 March 2011. He has been serving in the army since his enlistment in 1982, holding a string of positions since. He was organised the army’s peace support operations in Afghanistan.

“The Singapore Army wishes to express its appreciation to MG Ravinder Singh for his leadership and dedicated service to MINDEF and the SAF,” the release said.

His successor has been in the army since 1990 . Lim was awarded with several scholarships such as the SAF (Overseas) and President’s Scholarship in 1991. Among other appointments in his career, he was the chairman of the executive committee for the National Day Parade in 2013.
