Singapore to host 2015 SEA Games

REPORTING FROM JAKARTA

After almost 20 years, Singapore will once again be hosting the SEA Games in 2015.

The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean to reporters at the Jakabaring Aquatics Complex at the conclusion of the SEA Games Federation meeting on Saturday.

Singapore was the only nation to submit a bid.

"It's very different from the YOG (Youth Olympic Games)," Teo was quoted as saying. "We will have slightly more athletes than the YOG, but there will be fewer contingents of course - 11 contingents, but many more athletes for each contingent."

2015 will be Singapore’s fourth time hosting the Games, with previous editions being held here in 1973, 1983 and 1993.

In the meantime, the next SEA Games will be held in 2013 in Myanmar.
