Skydiver Plans 25,000-Foot Jump With No Parachute
Luke Aikins has made more than 18,000 parachute jumps, but he's trying something new on Saturday. The experienced skydiver will be jumping out of a plane at 25,000 feet without a parachute, and without a wingsuit.
Instead, he'll be relying on his skill at directing his body in order to land on a net the size of about a third of a football field. That may sound big, but it's a ridiculously tiny target for someone approaching from the sky at 120 mph.
The neton the property of a movie ranch north of Los Angeleswill be suspended 200 feet in the air, toin theorycushion Aikins' fall and slow him down, sort of like a giant hammock.

We're talking about jumping without a parachute, and I take that very seriously. It's not a joke, Aikins told the Associated Press. If I wasn't nervous I would be stupid.
But he thinks the jump is a statement on mankind's potential.
I'm proving that we can do stuff that we don't think we can do if we approach it the right way, said Aikins.
