LTA submits probe report to Committee of Inquiry

(UPDATED 13 Feb, 1:29pm)

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has submitted its own investigation report into the December train breakdowns to the Committee of Inquiry (COI).

Their submissions comes two weeks after train operator SMRT submitted its own probe report findings to the government-convened panel, headed by SMRT board member Ong Ye Kung.

Last December, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew convened the COI to investigate into two major service disruptions on the North-South Line that affected over 220,000 commuters.

The LTA said it will cooperate fully with the COI and follow up on its findings and recommendations.

In a media statement, SMRT said since the Dec 2011 incidents, it has already implemented its improvement plan to reduce the risk of future disruptions. It will also await the final findings of the COI before implementing future improvements.

Earlier this week, Minister Lui said in Parliament that the government is working on minimising major disruptions but that some disruptions and defects on the MRT are "unavoidable".

“Train service disruptions can still occur from time to time," Lui said in response to Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Ramasamy Dhinakaran's question on the resources spent on preventive maintenance for the North-East Line (NEL).
