Is Teatox The New Detox?

I am a self-professed fitness junkie. I hit the gym five times a week, I have a (mostly) clean diet, and I scour the Internet almost everyday in search of health fads and anything that can aid me in my journey to lose weight.

In this world of gorgeous models and close-to-perfect celebrities, many girls (and guys) are on a never-ending search for the perfect diet or health trick to help them shed pounds with little effort to achieve their desired body. I, admittedly, am no different. From paleo and vegan diets to HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts, I have tried them all.

Recently, detoxing has been one of the most popular trends in the health industry. The removal of toxic substances in the body is believed to cleanse the body and lead to weight loss. This has led to the sharp increase of detox diets, detox beauty treatments, and of course, the oh-so-popular juice cleanse diet.

Also known as juice fasting, juice cleansing is a rather controversial detox diet in which a person only drinks fruit and vegetable juices for anywhere from one day to even one month. It has been known to help people lose up to 3kg in just three days. Sounds like a relatively cheap and easy diet, doesn’t it? Except that it isn’t.

Juice cleanses are only said to work if the juice is produced from certain types of freshly juiced fruits and vegetables, so the usual types of juices that you pick up at the supermarket will be of no use. These special juices are usually sold at a manufacturer of juice cleanse products, which can cost up to more than $300 for just three days worth of juices. I had been saving up money just to buy myself a three-day juice cleanse – until I stumbled onto the teatox.

Teatox – The New Big Thing?

The teatox, also known as a tea detox, is a series of tea bags said to alkalise, detoxify and speed up your metabolism, allowing your body to burn fat and lose weight. Companies all over the world have been sprouting their own tea blends, such as Bootea from UK, which uses a mix of different herbal leaves and roots in its blends, SkinnyFox Detox from the US, which has nothing but organic ingredients in its tea, and Thin Tea from Australia, which contains zero caffeine or laxatives, but still burns fat with its tea leaves.

In Singapore, we have SkinnyMint, the fat burning tea.

Founded in 2013, Skinnymint is based in Singapore with satellite offices in London, Spain, Indonesia and Australia. It is also one of the fastest growing health companies that are taking the health and fitness industry by storm with its detoxes.

Using two special mixes, the day and night blend, the SkinnyMint teatox is said to increase energy while reducing appetite and burning fat. The morning boost blend helps boost metabolism and curb appetites, while the night cleanse contains natural laxatives that will regulate digestion and let you sleep well.

Tea, Tea, Tea, All Day Long

That being said, I took the risk and tried out the teatox myself, and I’m glad I did. For a tea-lover like myself, discovering this detox programme was like stumbling onto a gold mine.

All I had to do was to drink tea two times a day on top of my daily routine, and expect to cut inches from my waist. I could still eat my normal meals everyday without having to fast from anything, and what’s more, a month of this teatox only cost a little over $69.

I decided to try out the 28-day teatox, and embarked on my teatox journey. The morning boost, which has a floral and fruity fragrance, indeed provided me with more energy every morning, leaving me feeling fresh and ready for the day ahead.

The night cleanse, however, has a strong ginger and lemongrass aftertaste, while it can be rather unpleasant to taste at first, but its laxative effect is indeed successful; I found myself heading to the washroom more frequently after my meals and my constipation problems solved. My complexion seemed clearer, and any bloatedness I usually feel after eating was also reduced.

SkinnyMint Endorsements

Teatoxing has become very popular these days due to the strong online presence they have. SkinnyMint uses the blogosphere to spread its popularity around in Singapore. Get onto Instagram and go to the profile of an influential blogger, and there is a high chance that you’ll find her boasting the slimming effects of the teatox, along with a well-shot picture of her in a bikini, or at least an apparel that shows off her flat midriff.

SkinnyMint also urges its customers to post their “before” and “after” teatox pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #DareToBeGorgeous, and reposts pictures of these usually pretty girls with a flat stomach to prove their teatox’s effectiveness.

Methods like these are definitely appealing to teenage girls who want to lose weight. Who can resist trying out such a teatox if girls all over the country are praising its effectiveness?

That said, teatox is growing to become the next big health thing. It’s virtually effortless, and to tealovers, it’s just another reason to drink as much tea as possible. Why not?
