5 Aug – Japanese gravure idol and former race queen Tejima Yuu has finally confessed about her real age on a variety programme and apologised to her fans for lying about it.
According to Tokyo Hive, Tejima was thought to be 27 years old, until she revealed her real age to be 29 on TBS's "Sunday Japon" on 29 July. She also added that she was turning 30 on 27 August this year.
In addition to her confession, Tejima apologised on the programme, and explained that her reason for hiding her age. According to Tejima, her management agency told her that she would be more popular as a gravure idol if she was in her teens, so the then 21-year-old Tejima decided to cut 2 years off her real age in order to make her debut.
After the broadcast of the show, Tejima wrote on her official blog, "Viewers of "Sunday Japon", thank you very much. I came out... you must have been surprised. Sorry for giving everyone a shock. Starting now, I will work hard from here on so please support me!"
