Tianjin Eco-City gets new leadership

Leaders taking charge of Tianjin Eco-City will see a new slate, with many key people being transferred to different posts or stepping down, as the Prime Minister reshuffled the Singapore cabinet two weeks after the general election.

However, many analysts are hopeful that the transition will be smooth, as the new men taking charge have strong experience in China, and that the joint project is largely based on mutual interest rather than individual ties.

The retirement of several Singaporean ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan, who played key roles in the project since its inception in 2007, will affect key leaders in charge of overseeing the project.

Senior Minister of State Grace Fu will also be leaving the Ministry of National Development (MND), which is in charge of the flagship joint project.

The multi-billion-dollar joint project will eventually house several green projects and a township for nearly 350,000 residents.
