Twitter index: One Direction dominates Twitter

British-Irish boy band One Direction is dominating Twitter on Friday August 3 with the top two worldwide trending topics relating to the band's forthcoming world tour.

On August 2 it was announced that the boy band had passed the milestone of 12 million record sales in the past year, which broke down as 8 million singles, 3 million copies of their debut album Up All Night and one million copies of the DVD Up All Night: The Live Tour.

Now fans of the band are taking to Twitter to either share their excitement about the band's forthcoming (and long since announced) tour -- with the second placed trending topic "#ItalyCantWaitForThe1DTour"-- or to express disappointment that their home country is not included -- "#TurkeyDeservesToBeIn1D2013Tour."

Also capturing microbloggers' attentions today is the Olympic heptathlon and competing British athelete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

The top 10 most talked about topics on Twitter on August 3 at 1:15 PM GMT are:
