The Hand & Flowers in Marlow has been named the UK’s top gastropub at the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropub Awards.

The two Michelin-starred pub run by chef Tom Kerridge was last year’s runner-up. Dishes on its à la carte menu include slow cooked duck breast with savoy cabbage, duck fat chips and gravy, and Essex lamb ‘bun’ with sweetbreads and salsa verde.

The Harwood Arms in Fulham, west London came in second with the Star Inn at Harome in Helmsley, north Yorkshire in third place.

The Michael Parkinson-owned Royal Oak Paley Street in Maidenhead came in sixth, just ahead of Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head in Bray, which is opposite the Fat Duck.

The awards are voted for by chefs, food writers, pub chiefs and suppliers. The voting is broken down into eight geographical regions to ensure each region of the UK has an opportunity to shine. However, no pubs from Scotland or Northern Ireland made the top 50.
