Users complain iPhone clock bungles time change

It's hard enough to get your bearings when the time changes twice a year. It's all but impossible when your phone starts playing tricks on you, too.

Users of Apple's iPhone peppered Twitter and blogs with complaints Sunday when their phones bungled the one-hour "spring forward" to daylight savings time that went into effect overnight Saturday.

One user complained of missing church, another of almost missing yoga. One called her iPhone stupid and several just asked for help.

It turns out some users' phones fell back one hour instead of springing forward, making the time displayed on the iPhone two hours off.

This is just the latest clock woe for Apple's chic iPhone. A clock glitch prevented alarms from sounding on New Year's Day, causing slumbering revelers to oversleep. The devices also struggled to adjust to the end of daylight savings time back in November.

The glitch affected iPhone owners who subscribe for phone service through both AT&T and Verizon.

Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., could not be reached for comment Sunday.

Twitter was abuzz with a simple solution: Either shut down and restart the phone, or switch the phone to "airplane mode" and then back.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPhones since they were first offered in 2007, dazzling customers with features that allow users to watch movies, play games, surf the Internet and get driving directions on a small, sleek device.

That these paragons of high tech have had trouble telling time led to dripping sarcasm Sunday, even from owners who didn't suffer any problems. One whose clock adjusted just fine called the iPhone revolutionary.

How do you feel about this article?

Don't these people know that a dumb watch of $5 keeps a better time than that iphone? tell me, how much is that iphone again?

"That dumb watch of $5" can't automatically switch to DST. "That iPhone" can. It was a glitch, something that happens once a while to every electronic equipment.

It is a case of over reliance on the wrong technolo----.

laugh all you want but til now, i am using a winding alarm clock.. the one you will have to wind all the way til it locks, i bought this in 2007 for $7. and it never failed on me til now. that is fool-proff, most reliable alarm clock up until now!

you were late because your iphone 4 did not ring on time? what's up with this whining? it your fault no matter what you say. haha.. there is an option to get your iphone adjust to the DST automatically.. that one is checked maybe due to the "what-does-this-do?-aahh..what-does-this-do?-ahhh.." attitude thinking that it can make your phone function at top notch performance...

if you want to rely on these technologies to this date for your personal preference. just four words baby...

Unless u live in the jungle! Even the government is not immune to relying on technolo----. I hope you don't use technolo---- as an excuse for your failings anytime soon. If yr mobile got no battery and u have to meet someone, remember "Over reliant on technologies is NOT an excuse for lateness."

even medieval method of telling time like using sun-cast shodows is more reliable than the iphone, though not so accurate. And I think reliability is much more important for technologies to exist than anything else. No point having a top-notch device which is unreliable even in its simplicity in telling time. Accurate time is important too in this fast moving world where multi business deals depend.

What's all the rage about? Tech are not mend to be perfect and hence the continuos updates , upgrades and improvisation.
Overly dependence, devotion and clinging your life and soul to it will defeat your basic human senses and instinct already install in your natural system and will render it useless and eventually degradation to one own health.

      Apple has made people complacent.
    • Lim Meng Lee  •  1 year 2 months ago
My earlier comment has being misinterpreted by some foolish idiots as an illusion that I DO NOT USE TECH.

LET ME REITERATE TO ALL YOU FOOLS WHO DID NOT UNDERSTAND MY EARLIER COMMENT!

IF YOU WANT TO RELY ON TECH> MAKE SURE U HAVE BASIC KNOWLEDGE INSTEAD OF BEING AN IT FOOL>

Those who's complianting do not realize they already can't live without iPhone. If you're looking for reliable clock, there's an app for that ® !
