Vera Wang finds it “frustrating” that she’s known for being “glam”.
The designer is renowned for her beautiful wedding dresses, but insists there is a lot more to both her talent and her personal style.
She thinks people would be surprised if they could see the sort of clothes she really loves to wear.
“Glam is not my middle name,” she laughed. “[That should be] artsy, subversive, minimalist, street. I make things of my own that aren't that glam, but I'm not known for that, which has always been a bit of a frustration for me.”
Vera is a fan of designers such as Rick Owens and Azzedine Alaïa. She is impressed by Rick’s dedication to his vision and thinks people would be amazed by how much she spends on Alaïa’s creations.
“I know Stephanie Seymour is his biggest muse, I might be his biggest customer,” she laughed in the interview with the American edition of Harper’s Bazaar.
In the accompanying spread, the 62-year-old star is seen in a swimsuit with an Alexander Wang corset over it. Her body is toned and slim but she admits being embarrassed about showing off so much flesh.
“I wanted to wear a corset from Alexander Wang, whom I like a great deal. I was thinking it would be over a legging or a boyish short, but the next thing I knew, I was there in a swimsuit,” she joked.
"The funny thing is that I'm the girl who no one sees at the beach. Ask anyone who's travelled with me. Normally, I'm in so many layers, I look like Lawrence of Arabia!
“I'm a little horrified. But I still love that bustier.”
