Vonnie gone AWOL?

19 Apr: Busty "3D Sex & Zen: Extreme Ecstasy" star Vonnie Lui Hoi Yan, has disappeared after appearing at the recent Cannes Film Festival, according to the film's producer, as reported by Chinese tabloids.

Producer Stephen Shiu Jr was quoted as saying: "It's suspected she's gone AWOL with boyfriend."

"Her phone has been out of service since we returned from Cannes, and we all lost touch with her."

"We felt confused. I know she's been enjoying time with her boyfriend, but isn't work important, too?"

Shiu had previously arranged for the 36F "Slim Till Dead" and "Love Education" beauty to attend the premiere of "3D Sex & Zen" in Thailand early in June, but now has to send co-star Leni Lan instead.

However, he still wants to take Vonnie to several international film festivals.

"I hope she'll get in touch with me about that."

Vonnie Lui, 29, has been a bit-part actress for years but gained international fame only after her memorable turn as The Elder Of Bliss in what has been touted as the world's first 3D soft-porn flick.

She is further reported to have refused a tycoon's advances last month and has fallen in love with a fashion shop owner instead.

Hong Kong press published photos of them in a joy ride in a BMW borrowed from a friend and Lui had reportedly admitted the relationship.

"3D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy" topped James Cameron's sci-fi adventure "Avatar" and broke Hong Kong's one-day record for box office takings, en route to reclaiming its producer's earliest record for the highest-grossing Category III movie of all time notched by the 1991 original.

The 3D erotica, touted as the world's first stereoscopic 3D softcore porn before the honour was usurped by South Korea's "Natali", raked in HK $2.79 million (US $360,000) on its first day, according to the Hong Kong Motion Pictures Industry Association.

  • Singaporean filmmaker gets 15-minute standing ovation at Cannes

Singaporean director Anthony Chen described as “surreal” the 15-minute standing ovation that followed the world premiere of his debut feature film "Ilo Ilo" at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. Though the ending of the premiere couldn’t have been more perfect, the 29-year-old Chen said the beginning was quite “nerve-wrecking” as it was marred by technical glitches.
