Websites removed for imitating DNC registry

The Singapore Network Information Centre has removed the domain names dncpdpc.sg and dncpdpc.com.sg to prevent confusion that these sites are affiliated with the official Do Not Call (DNC) Registry at www.dnc.gov.sg.

According to media reports, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) clarified DNC Register Pte Ltd and its portal www.dncpdpc.com.sg are not associated with, endorsed or approved by the PDPC.

As such, the agency warned entities not to imitate its name or its official websites as the public might think these companies and portals are linked to PDPC.

Moreover, the commission reiterated the liability for not following the DNC rules falls with organisations, not third party aggregators they hire to check if certain numbers are listed in the DNC registry.

Should the aggregator fail to indicate that a particular phone number is listed in the official DNC Registry maintained by PDPC, the organisation who calls that number is still liable under the Personal Data Protection Act, said the agency.
