Xbox One to launch in Taiwan and China simultaneously, but guess where it’s cheaper!

Well, here’s good news for Taiwanese Xbox fans and yet another reason for Chinese Xbox fans to be bitter: Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will be coming to Taiwan on September 23, the same day it’s coming to mainland China. The prices, however, are very different:

The two countries will also get different games bundled with the consoles at launch. Basic versions of the Chinese console will come with the free-to-play Neverwinter Online, but Taiwanese gamers will get Titanfall instead. Taiwanese fans who choose to buy the limited launch edition console will also get Kinect Sport Rivals and Dance Central Spotlight.

The massive price discrepancy between the consoles is likely due, at least in part, to China’s high import duties on foreign electronics. But with a cheaper Chinese-language console launching on the same day just across the strait, it’s possible that gray-market imports of the Taiwan Xbox One could sell better in China than the official Chinese ones do.
