The upcoming Korean-American production of Late Autumn will be a remake of the 1966 classic directed by Lee Man-hee. The movie will attempt to tell a tragic love story between a female prisoner who was granted special leave from her good conduct in prison, and a man who is on the run for his illegal counterfeit activities.
When Late Autumn was shown in the theatres back in the 1960s, it received good critiques and was labeled a masterpiece in Korean film history. The movie was remade again in 1982 with Korean actress Kim Hye-ja acting as the female lead. The 1982 remade won Kim the best actress award in the Manila International Film Festival the following year.
The modern remake of Late Autumn will be directed by Kim Tae-yong of Family Ties and will be a co-production effort with an American production company.
Popular Korean actor, Hyun Bin, is said to be the male lead in this modern remake with Chinese actress, Tang Wei, taking on the role of the female lead. A representative from Late Autumn revealed that they are currently in the midst of auditioning Chinese female actresses for the leading lady role and refused to confirm Tang's participation in the movie.
Production for the movie will take place in America during November.
