One of China's most successful commercial athlete and a Hong Kong multi-hyphenate superstar have joined forces. Chinese 110-metre hurdler and Olympic Gold medalist Liu Xiang will take on his first movie role in Jackie Chan's eighth installment of the movie series, Police Story.
Jackie was said to have specially designed a role to fit the athlete in the movie. Liu Xiang will be acting as a 'thief' who will be chased by cops (Jackie) in the movie.
This movie, however, will only be produced after the 26-year-old retires as Jackie explained, "It is necessary to let Liu Xiang perform well in his sports first. After his retirement, I will invite him to shoot a movie."
The tall hurdler expressed his interest in Jackie's offer and said, "Athletes need to focus on their sports. However, as long as the conditions are favourable, anything is possible."
The pair was present at a charity event held two days ago. They performed and recorded a duet together and auctioned off a DVD they signed on. Jackie jokingly told Liu Xiang, "You need to sing better, if you do not sing good enough, I will have no choice but to buy all the DVDs."
Liu Xiang shared that he grew up watching Jackie's movies and that he was his idol. In response, Jackie chimed, "Liu Xiang is one of China's most prized possessions who brings honour to the country. Everyone should not give him too much pressure. Just like every movie I film, everyone expects to see even more dangerous stunts. I have nearly lost my life like that."
