Yahoo! Singapore wins regional journalism award

Yahoo! Singapore has won a coveted regional journalism award for an original feature series on the closure of the historical Tanjong Pagar railway station.

In a ceremony in Hong Kong Thursday evening, the Society of Publishers in Asia awarded Yahoo! Singapore with the Excellence in Multimedia News Presentation award for its entry "The KTM Railway: The Last Ride Out".

Reporters Faris Mokhtar and Jeanette Tan produced the lengthy three-part write-up, which also included video interviews with staff, hawkers and commuters affected by the shutdown of the iconic Singapore railway station last July. Ion Danker gave editorial direction for the series while Marianne Tan took pictures for the widescreen picture story that formed part of the series.

Through the use of text, video and photos, Yahoo! Singapore went behind the scenes to show how the much beloved 79-year-old station had touched the lives of many in the city-state.

The different parts of the series appeared between 29 June and 1 July, a day after the last train left the station.

The Excellence in Multimedia News Presentation Award honours original work that best uses multimedia techniques to describe an idea, event, trend or personality, or explain a topic of significance.
