New York Fashion Week: top beauty trends

After nine days of Fall 2012 ready-to-wear presentations from the likes of Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg and Ralph Lauren, New York Fashion Week came to a close February 16, with some of the most exciting new trends including silver leaf lips, sequins and faux bobs.

Cosmetics went theatrical at shows including Betsey Johnson, where sequins were placed in the center of the eyes. The luxe look continued at Thom Browne's presentation, where silver lipstick was adorned with silver leaf.

Eyeliner was also applied in creative ways this season, with double winged eyeliner being given an interesting reworking at the Altuzarra presentation and Jen Kao, BCBG, and L.A.M.B. also offering a less conventional double liner look.

At Anna Sui, 60s-inspired blue winged liner made an impact; a blue dot was added under the lower lash line.

In terms of hair, accessories enjoyed plenty of time in the spotlight, with ornate clips and hairbands appearing at shows including Rodarte, Carolina Herrera, and Oscar de la Renta. The latter also innovated with the "fob" (faux bob) where long locks are strategically pinned into a short style. This style also appeared at L'Wren Scott, while at Thakoon long tresses were combed forward to create a type of faux fringe.

Messy updos were big at Rebecca Minkoff and Marchesa, while the victory roll stole the show at Jenny Packham and Lela Rose. In terms of color, the ombre hair trend was turned on its head at Jen Kao, where many models had dark tips added to their locks.
