Zhao Wei plays a village woman in new movie

4 Apr – After a photo of a bare-faced Zhao Wei was released recently, it was revealed that the actress will be playing a simple village woman in Peter Chan's new movie, "Dear Child".

As reported on Oriental Daily, speaking at the press conference of the new movie in Beijing on 2 April, Peter Chan revealed that he and the actress have been discussing the project for ten years before they were finally able to work together.

The movie, which also stars Chinese actors Huang Bo and Tong Dawei, will discuss human trafficking, which is one of the biggest issues to date around the world, especially in China.

Speaking about her first role in three years, Zhao Wei stated that playing the character will be a huge challenge, adding that she was not able to eat or sleep thinking about it.

"I used to be able to walk to kindergarten on my own when I was a kid. It was safe to do so. Nowadays, the situation is worrying," said the actress, in regards to the crimes involving children in China.

Meanwhile, Tong Dawei hoped that the film would grab the community's attention, calling for stricter laws and for the government to sample a child's DNA and fingerprint it to increase the chances of finding a kidnapped child.
