'All in the Family' vs. 'Laverne & Shirley': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.
(4) "All in the Family" ("Those Were the Days")
Just goes to show: New isn’t always better. In Round 1, the charmingly rough, off-key “All in the Family” theme song vanquished the jazzercise-y “Saved By the Bell” tune. Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton’s cheerful ode to a time when “guys like us, we had it made” and “everybody pulled his weight” does, in fact, makes us nostalgic for when “those were the days.”
(5) "Laverne & Shirley" ("Making Our Dreams Come True")
Shlemiel, shlemazel… they did it! The bright, upbeat “Making Our Dreams Come True” defeated the jazzy sap of the “Family Ties” theme song in Round 1. Now, as Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams sing, “there’s no stopping us.” We dare you not to be inspired (and do a little dance) to this cheerful anthem. Make their dreams come true… and help them advance to the next round!
