'Cheers' vs. 'Happy Days': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

Sam Malone and the Fonz compare little black books in Round 2 of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(1) "Cheers" ("Where Everybody Knows Your Name")

"The Greatest American Hero" might have a super-powered suit, but "Cheers" was the real behemoth in Round 1, tossing "Hero" around like a rag doll to the tune of a 75%-25% victory. About what you'd expect from a top seed, right? It does get a little tougher for the gang at "Cheers" in Round 2, going up against the Fonz and the "Happy Days" gang. But "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" is too good to go out this early; we fully expect to see Sam and Diane bickering and making up in Round 3.

(8) "Happy Days"

These are "Happy Days" indeed for Richie, Potsie, Ralph, and the Fonz, as they soared past "The Twilight Zone" in Round 1 like a dude waterskiing over a shark. (Ouch… sorry, low blow.) It's impossible not to sing along with the bright-eyed doo-wop of the "Happy Days" theme, and against any other opponent, we'd like its chances. But "Cheers" is the 800-pound gorilla in this bracket; we have a feeling Richie and the gang will be sipping a consolation milkshake at Arnold's Drive-In after this round.
