'Diff'rent Strokes' vs. 'Gilligan's Island': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

Arnold and Willis, or Gilligan and the Skipper? You decide in Round 1 of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(5) "Diff'rent Strokes"

So much surrounding "Diff'rent Strokes" is sad, from the former-child-star notoriety of stars Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, and Dana Plato to the more recent death of dad Conrad Bain. But there's just no way to be anything but happy -- and do anything but sing along -- when you hear this classic TV theme song, co-written by former marrieds "Growing Pains" dad Alan Thicke and "Days of Our Lives" star Gloria Loring. You disagree? Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Yahoo! TV reader?

(12) "Gilligan's Island" ("The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle")

This gem (co-written by "Gilligan" and "Brady Bunch" creator Sherwood Schwartz) is working on all levels: Not only is it one of the most beloved TV theme songs of all time for its catchy tune and memorable lyrics, but it also unfolded the backstory of how Gilligan and company ended up trapped on the titular island.
