'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' vs. 'The Sopranos': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

Fresh Prince Will Smith takes on mob kingpin Tony Soprano in Round 1 of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(3) "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"

"In west Philadelphia born and raised / On the playground was where I spent most of my days," Will Smith raps, until "I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said 'You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.'" Not only is the "Fresh Prince" theme song funny and entertaining, it might be the most useful of all, since it tells viewers everything they need to know about the comedy's plot and effervescent tone in less than two minutes.

(14) "The Sopranos" ("Woke Up This Morning")

Dark, menacing, moody, intense… "The Sopranos" theme song perfectly reflects the drama's somber, often violent mood. "Woke Up This Morning" was written by Alabama 3 about a 1996 murder case, but the sinister lyrics seem designed to portray mob boss Tony Soprano: "You woke up this morning, got yourself a gun, Mama always said you'd be The Chosen One." The insistent, throbbing drumbeats build in intensity, echoing Tony's increasing difficulties at home and at work.
