'The Golden Girls' vs. 'Dawson's Creek': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

Late-in-life Florida pals, or late-'90s teen romance? You decide in Round 1 of Yahoo TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(3) "The Golden Girls" ("Thank You for Being a Friend")

Romances bloom and fade away, but friendships are forever. The infectious, joyful "Golden Girls" theme song, "Thank You For Being a Friend," celebrates the deep, unbreakable bonds shared by Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia. The women support each other through relationships, annoying family members, highs and lows, "down the road and back again." The soulful and jazzy song makes you want to jump up, hug someone who's been "a pal and a confidant," and truly thank them for being a friend.

(14) "Dawson's Creek" ("I Don't Want to Wait")

Love takes center stage in the passionate, yearning "I Don't Want to Wait," by Paula Cole. It's the perfect anthem for high school romances: highly dramatic ("I don't want to wait for our lives to be over") and impatient ("I want to know right now, what will it be?"). The ballad echoes the unpredictable, back-and-forth, Joey/Dawson vs. Joey/Pacey, nature of teen love. Even without words, the plaintive chorus -- “Doo doo doo, ooh ooh" -- says it all.
