The $1.6m effort to move Malawi's elephants

A $1.6 million effort is currently underway to repopulate one of Malawi's national parks -- the Nkhotakota Game Reserve -- with elephants from elsewhere in the country. By the end of August a total of 500 elephants are expected to have been 'translocated' to the formerly sparsely-populated area, with 11 moved on Friday from the Majete Wildlife Reserve. The work is being undertaken by African Parks, a company which won a concession to manage three national parks in Malawi, and the funding comes from various donors.
