1, dead, 1 injured, in motorcycle-car collision in Seberang Prai


NIBONG TEBAL: A factory worker was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car at Jalan Besar Simpang Ampat here, early this morning.

Mohamad Imran Mohd Sukri, 21, died at the scene in the 3am incident due to serious head injuries.

Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Shafee Abd Samad said the accident is believed to have occurred when Imran’s motorcycle strayed into the opposite lane, causing his machine to collide with the car, driven by a 20-year-old.

"The victim is believed to have entered the opposite lane, and the car driver could not brake in time.

"As a result of the crash, the victim died instantly due to serious injuries," he said.

Shafee said Imran's friend, who was riding pillion, escaped with minor injuries.

The driver, along with three passengers, escaped unhurt.

The victim's remains were sent to the Sungai Bakar Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
