The 10 best tech products I bought in 2022

How was your 2022? Mine was pretty great, at least if we're talking tech. (The less said about viruses, hurricanes and politics, the better.) Before we jump into all the fun new stuff that 2023 will bring, let's pause to look back at some of the best tech products of the year. Out of the many, many I tested, the following 10 stand out as favorites.

The Bip 3 Pro continues a long tradition of amazingly good, amazingly inexpensive Amazfit watches. It's not perfect, but it's easy to recommend for anyone seeking wrist-based time, notifications, fitness tracking, health monitoring and much more. Oh, and its amazing battery life should leave Apple feeling very, very embarrassed.

If you can swing the cost and don't mind committing to a little learning and practice, the DJI Avata is a ridiculously fun way to fly like birds do — and to see what birds see. This combo kit includes not only the drone but also first-person-view goggles and a motion-sensitive handheld controller.

Why buy a laptop if you do all your work at a desk? The Mini IT11 packs a lot of power into its compact case, and you can use it with the keyboard and monitor of your choice. Unless you're a gamer, this should handle every home- and office-computing need you have.

If you're ready for a seriously big TV upgrade, the Hisense U7H brings 85 inches of home theater goodness into your living room. With dazzling Quantum Dot color and a whopping 120 local dimming zones, this TV comes very close to rivaling OLED models that cost a lot more. You'll need a serious chunk of wall space or an extra-deep TV stand, but if you've got the accommodations, you'll love this supersize screen.

Amazon's newly updated e-reader is anything but entry-level, offering more storage, a better screen and a welcome dark mode. It's a great distraction-free reading tool, but you might want to wait for its inevitable sale pricing.

If money is no object (or your home is just really, really dirty), splurge on Roborock's super-versatile cleaner. It not only vacuums and mops, but it also self-empties its dustbin and water reservoir. I've tried a lot of robot vacuums over the years; I've yet to encounter one that works this well and requires so little human intervention.

The StormBox Blast has everything you would want from an outdoor Bluetooth speaker: easy portability (thanks, '80s boom-box-style handle), incredible battery life (up to 30 hours, which blows away the competition) and sound that, if I'm being honest, handily beats the Sonos Move's in outdoor environments. Credit that to the two tweeters and two midwoofers that combine to crank out a hefty 90 watts of audio goodness. Everything I played on the StormBox Blast just felt BIG.

Compact enough to sit on the arm of your couch, the Xgimi Elfin projects a sharp, bright picture on your wall. It automatically adjusts for keystone, size and focus — and it comes with Android already built in, so you can stream nearly everything (except Netflix, drat) right out of the box. This coupon deal won't last long, though.

One last time up the ladder: Govee's wonderful weatherproof LEDs stay put once installed and bathe your house in festive lighting — not just for Christmas, but for all kinds of holidays and occasions.
