11 Best Churros in Singapore That Are Dipping-licious

A predominantly Spanish originated dough pastry (although its real recipe origins are disputed), Churros are known more affectionately as Spanish doughnuts and are also popular in many other countries.

Fried, long (some short), golden brown sticks or pieces of Churros made with choux pastry might just make your day a much better one. Appearance, texture and taste might seem similar to the Chinese Fried Fritters, churros are usually eaten sweet.

Coated with sugar generously, churros are also usually dipped in warm chocolate sauce for extra indulgence. Oh, or berries sauce if you are feeling a little healthier (not like that bit of change would improve your health much). No matter what, Churros will definitely make your tastebuds happy, and probably like me you can’t stop at merely one.

In no particular order, here we go with my selection of favorite Churros in Singapore.

1. Salt Tapas & Bar

Salt Tapas & bar’s Churros with Choco ($14) were jaw-droppingly good. Served warm at just the right temperature, these crunchy golden brown churros are really crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside.

The coarse sugar crystals balanced the sweetness and saltiness well. Served with thick chocolate sauce and cream by the side, the chocolate sauce is pretty sweet which pairs better with the milky, vanilla cream to neutralize the sweetness. A subtle cinnamon flavour is found in the Churros too.

2. Churros Factory

If you’re looking for a churro that’s different from the norm, it would definitely have to be at Churros Factory. Their Ondeh Ondeh & Red Velvet (3 pieces for $4, 6 for $7) are 2 examples of unique flavours rather than plain churros.

Churros Factory even offers a pre-order option- call in a few hours before and they will prepare a ready box of churros. The Churros here consists of a fair sugar to pastry ratio, which isn’t so sweet as to require big gulps of water thereafter.

3. Churro 101

Probably the latest addition to the Churros scene here in Singapore is the famous Korean brand Churros 101. They specialize in serving filled Churros, which you must be wondering, what’s filled?

The churros here are filled with guilty pleasures such as chocolate ($4.50), cream cheese ($4.70) and milk custard ($4.50). All three versions were absolutely, delicious and you have our word it won’t disappoint. We loved the crisp dough which breaks into a soft, smooth, semi-sweet cream filling that oozes out.

4. GRUB

GRUB’s Churros ($9) are served with dark chocolate sauce and a tangy creme anglaise. This is again another exemplary churro with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior that is thoroughly rolled in sugar on every single piece.

The outer crust was a bit too sturdy which was, well, a little hard to slice through initially but softens with some dip. Accompanied with the dark chocolate which controlled the overall sweetness, and the tangy creme anglaise for a little twist to what a typical Churros would taste like.

5. Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar is of course, well-known for their chocolates. While they are famed for chocolate, wouldn’t it be a heavenly when paired with churros? Well that sounds great to me.

I would recommend the Churros ($16) with fondue option, so that you get to choose 2 types of different chocolate sauces as well as a strawberry jam. There was an adequate level on chewiness, which is hard to find in most Churros which are either too hard or soft. A strong punch of cinnamon sugar with each bite. Bonus points for presentation effort as well.

6. Common Man Coffee Roasters

The churros at Common Man Coffee in my opinion, has one of the smoother textures which wasn’t too firm. Their Churros ($12) wasn’t too oily for a fried snack, which was good for me because I had a sore throat at the time of trying this.

Pretty mild cinnamon flavour, but surprisingly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Chocolate sauce was mildly sweet, and on the thinner side- good for people who like it less sweet.

Churros are said to be Spain’s traditional desserts, so it’s no surprise you can find it in a Spanish restaurant like Serenity which serves their Homemade Churros with hot chocolate ($7).

Really crunchy with that a amber brown crust while being slightly dry on the inside. But all that luscious hot chocolate sauce made up for everything.

8. Super Loco

A hidden gem in the Churros scene is the one served at Super Loco. The Super Churros ($10) here are termed as Mexican-style Churros (also known as crullers), dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with chocolate sauce. Taste-wise, the Mexican version of churros has eggs and butter in it for a richer, creamier flavour compared to the Spanish churros which is lighter.

Additional option of adding Raspberry or Caramel Sauce for $2, and/or Vanilla ice cream for $4 is also available.

9. Sabio By The Sea

Churros ($12) from Sabio by the Sea is served with Homemade Chocolate or Caramel Sauce. Both sauces are served hot, so it definitely matches these tasty sticks of Churros. Generously coated with sugar and cinnamon, these crispy Spanish churros are really good by its own and you might not even need the accompanying sauces.

Sabio by The Sea: 31 Ocean Way, #01-02 Quayside Isle, Singapore 098373 | Tel: 6690 7568 | Website | Opening hours: Monday-Wednesday 15:00-22:30; Thursday 12:00-22:30; Friday-Saturday 12:00-23:00; Sunday 11:00-22:30

10. 2am Dessert Bar

Famed for their range of exquisite and dedicated desserts, it’s not surprising that Churros is in 2am dessert bar’s menu as well, albeit with a little twist. Molded into smaller bite sizes compare to other Churros, I can easily pop every scrumptious piece into my mouth within seconds. Freshly served warm to you, accompanied with a velvety hot chocolate sauce, their Churros with Hot Chocolate ($10) is bound to take your tastebuds for a treat.

The House-made churros ($9) from Habitat coffee is frosted with cinnamon sugar and served with a liquid Chocolate Ganache. This rendition is light and fluffy rather than being more dense like the rest, letting you pop several into your tummy without feeling overly heavy. Price-wise, Habitat’s churros is also a lot more affordable compared to the other higher end restaurants charging more than $10 for fried dough. Can’t imagine paying $10 for you tiao, can you?
