TAIPING: A total of 11 Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) students here have been infected with Tuberculosis (TB).
Perak Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said one male student has already recovered, while 10 others are still being treated.
"The first case was diagnosed on Aug 18, last year, while the first case of (2017) was detected on April 4.
"All 10 students – seven boys and three girls, all aged 17 – are responding well to the medicines given. No isolation is needed, as once the treatment begins, (the patient is no longer) infectious," he told reporters after visiting the school today.
Mah also urged parents to immunise their children against TB in order to prevent them from being infected.
"The State Health department is actively screening schools for other cases.
“The schools also need to take proactive steps to ensure that their student dormitories are (well) ventilated (and have) proper lighting," he added.
