Fifteen commuters had to be detrained Friday morning (16 Feb) after a power fault disrupted services on the Light Rail Transit along the Sengkang West loop.

According to a statement from rail operator SBS Transit, the fault led a Light Rail Vehicle (LRT) to stall at about 11.10am as it neared the Sengkang Town Centre (STC) station.

Videos posted online showed passengers walking along the rail tracks after being helped down from the stalled vehicle.

“At the time of the incident, a loud noise was heard due to a dislodged power collector shoe on the LRV. This caused the LRV to stall immediately as a safety feature,” Tammy Tan, SBS Transit’s senior vice-president for corporate communications, was quoted as saying by Channel NewsAsia.

After another LRV pushed the stalled LRV, service resumed at about 1pm.

Tan said SBS Transit is investigating the cause of the fault.
