15-month-old child killed, sibling and parents hurt in motorcycle-lorry crash

BUTTERWORTH: A 15-month-old child died after the motorcycle he was riding with his parents and elder brother was involved in a accident with a lorry this morning.

Kweh Yu Jay died at Seberang Jaya Hospital while undergoing treatment for severe head injuries.

His father is warded at the same hospital for serious injuries, while his mother and brother were given outpatient treatment.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said they had received a call about the accident at Jalan Bagan Lallang, here, about 11.40am today.

He said both vehicles were heading towards Sungai Puyu.

“Initial investigations show that the motorcycle, with four people on it, had grazed the left side of the lorry, causing them to fall off.

“The father and son were rushed to hospital for treatment. However, the child succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

Noorzainy said the lorry driver escaped unhurt.

“Investigation is underway to determine how the accident happened,” he added. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
