13. Da Paolo at Rochester

Da Paolo Bistro Bar by Da Paolo Group is among 5 establishments currently owned by the family-run business. Residing on Rochester Drive, a leafy and meandering road that reminds me of Malcolm Road/Chancery Lane, the gastropub serves contemporary European cuisine and signature cocktails in its commodious space.

If the weather is tame, the simple alfresco seating that shares the lush forest is encouraged. The same can be said of neighbouring restaurants of the rather picturesque Rochester Drive, an area ideal for beery afternoon rewinds. Otherwise, the modern indoor dining room of Da Paolo where we sat for a taste of the crowd favourites here should serve one just fine.

There’s actually a shuttle service from the main road to the cafe, just call in and check with the staff or ask the security personnel (I only found out thereafter). Other than the cooling, nice indoor settings, you can opt to take a seat outside under the tentage and bask in the warm tropical breeze of Singapore. It feels like you are right out in nature.

Tables and TVs aside, once you arrive at Timbré the first thing that catches your eye is the sprawling outdoor play area.

The open space is enclosed by beautiful, thick green foliage with a brightly colored bounce house centerpiece. This makes Timbre a popular weekend destination for families looking to enjoy a good meal and cold drink while letting the kids roam freely.

tin hill social-5657

Tin Hill Social, located at Horse City, is very aptly named, for it encompasses a mingling space in Bukit Timah where people can gather. The restaurant is huge and has several different areas, with two main ones being the open kitchen and the bar, both having their own indoor and outdoor options.

Tin Hill Social is a quiet place away from the crowd and the noise of our tiny city, but not too ulu that you feel like you need to hop on a taxi to get there. The interiors are more edgy and keeps you free of mosquitoes if that’s your preference.
