ALOR STAR: Up to 157 people from 49 families from several villages in and around Changlun were evacuated from as early as 3 am today due to floods caused by incessant heavy rain since yesterday evening, according to the Civil Defence Force.
Kubang Pasu CDF officer Kamarulzaman Kasa said they were moved to the flood relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Changlun.
“The heavy rain, which lasted for several hours, caused Sungai Temin to overflow. The floods affected about 50 houses, some of them in Kampung Belukar,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Kamarulzaman said the CDF deployed 30 of its personnel to help with the evacuation once it was notified of the floods.
The Social Welfare Department, Police, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Emergency Response Team-Community (CDERT-C) also helped with the evacuation, he added.
