2 employers arrested for non-remittance of SSS contributions

MANILA — Two employers were arrested on Monday by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for failing to remit SSS contributions of their employees.

The operatives served the warrant of arrest to Dr. Realisa Henzon, a pediatrician at Capitol Medical Center and co-owner of Silver Stream Publishing Corporation and Erlina Benanitan, owner of Skill Power Institute.

According to SSS, the said employers have not remitted employees’ contributions for years.

The unremitted employee contributions of Dra. Henzon have accumulated to P6 million while unremitted contributions of Mrs. Benanitan’s employees have reached half a million pesos.

Under the Social Security Act of 1997, violators will be imprisoned for six to eight years.

They also have to pay in full the unremitted contributions including the penalties.

If SSS finds out that these employers have violated other workers’ rights, their company might be ordered for closure

“We will check if there are continuing violations. These people will be held accountable in order to protect our workers,” SSS legal department head, Atty. Renato Cuisia.

Out of 41 companies who committed violations, SSS officials have already visited 39.

The SSS plans to publish the names of the employers who did not remit SSS contributions of their employees. — Mon Jocson | UNTV News & Rescue
