SINGAPORE — Two men were charged on Thursday (10 March) over the rape of a 32-year-old woman at Pioneer Road on Tuesday.

Ahmed Rayhan, 30, and Alam Foysal, 36, are alleged to have brought the 32-year-old victim to Pioneer Road before assaulting her. Both Bangladeshis were not known to the victim, according to a police news release.

The victim cannot be named due to a gag order protecting her identity.

Each man was handed one charge of raping the woman. The alleged offence on 8 March is said to have been in the vicinity of Tuas West Road MRT, under Tuas Viaduct, and was allegedly committed from 12.30am to 2.20am.

Both men appeared in court via videolink to receive their charges. The prosecution applied for the duo to be remanded for scene visitation and seizure of exhibits, which District Judge Terence Tay granted. The pair will return to court on 17 March.

The police said it received a call for assistance at around 7.25am after the woman was found injured and conscious along Pioneer Road. Police officers arrived at the scene and observed that the woman had multiple injuries on her head and body.

She was conveyed conscious to the hospital, where a medical examination found that she might have been sexually assaulted.

Police officers conducted extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs, identified and arrested both men on the same day within 12 hours of the report being lodged.

If convicted of rape, each man can be jailed up to 20 years and fined or caned.
