UPDATE: Story has been updated to include more details about the weapons used in the assault and one of the accused’s other charges.

Two men were charged at the State Courts on Wednesday (21 November) for assaulting a woman at a bus stop in Jurong.

Singaporeans Zulkifri Said and Saifullah Dulivfri, both 30, were each accused of voluntarily causing hurt to a woman with dangerous weapons on Monday at a bus stop near Block 501 Jurong West Street 51. According to court documents, a penknife and wooden pole were used in the attack.

Zulkifri, who has a lawyer, is also facing three other unrelated charges for violence acts against two other women earlier this year.

His other alleged offences include criminally intimidating a woman, whom he threatened to kill in a Facebook photo he posted of two flick knives. He was also charged with possessing the knives, which are illegal here.

He also allegedly slapped and another woman on her cheek and back of her head in June this year.

Zulkifri’s charge sheets state that he was on remission for a previous jail term when he allegedly committed all his current charges.

Both men will be back in court next week.

Slashed with penknife

In a press release, police said they were alerted to the assault at about 2.45pm on Monday, but the two had fled the scene by then.

The woman was found with facial injuries and lacerations on her arms. She was conveyed to the hospital. The victim told police that she had been slashed with a penknife.

Zulkifri and Saifullah were arrested on the same day at about 9pm along Jurong West Street 42.

If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon, each man can be jailed up to seven years with fine or caning, or any combination of the punishments.
