A 20-year-old just won the $450 million jackpot

Um, buckle up, because this is a lot to process. A 20-year-old dude from Florida just won a $450 million jackpot, which, according to ABC, is the “fourth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions lottery history.” Let us repeat. 450 MILLION. 20-YEARS-OLD.

Okay, sorry. We’re done (for now).

Shane Missler of Port Richey, FL was the only winner of the January 5th jackpot (there are often multiple winners, and the money is divided evenly among them). He also apparently elected to take the lump sum payout of $281.2 million over annual payouts. Our quick internet research tells us that lottery winners typically have the option of accepting a smaller amount of money upfront, or receiving all of it over a number of years, both of which have their pros and cons.

And as utterly envious as we may be of the newly-minted young millionaire, it seems he has a good head on his shoulders.

“I’m only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family, and do some good for humanity,” he said, according to lottery officials. “Although I’m young I’ve had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me. I intend to take care of my family, have some fun along the way, and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future.”

Seems pretty legit…we can’t be that mad about this one. Oh, and Missler apparently quit his job this week. Le sigh.
