26 new COVID cases in Singapore, all imported

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 26 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore on Thursday (1 April), taking the country's total case count to 60,407.

All cases are imported. "Amongst the new cases today, 23 are asymptomatic, andwere detected from our proactive screening and surveillance, while three were symptomatic," said the MOH.

Among the 26 imported cases, three are Singaporeans – including a 23-year-old male symptomatic case – and one is a permanent resident who returned from Belgium, India, Indonesia and Yemen.

Two others are student's pass holders who arrived from India, while one case is a work pass holder who arrived from Japan.

Seventeen cases are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates, of whom three are foreign domestic workers. A 35-year-old male work permit holder who arrived from Bangladesh is Thursday's second symptomatic case.

The remaining two cases are short-term visit pass holders who arrived from Indonesia and India respectively to visit their family members who are Singaporeans. Thursday's third symptomatic case is a 27-year-old female short-term visit pass holder who arrived from Indonesia.

All 26 imported cases were placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving their notice.

The MOH noted that the number of new cases in the community has increased from none in the week before to three in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from none in the week before to three in the past week.

The ministry also added several places to a list of public venues visited by COVID-19 community cases while infectious.

They include two places within Ngee Ann City, including the shopping centre's PURE Fitness and PAUL bakery outlets. PUIRE Fitness was visited on ten separate occasions between 18 and 29 March.

The other places visited are Chang Korean BBQ at 71 Loewen Road, Tangles at Tanglin Club, AKASHI at Paragon, Cherry Discotheque at Keck Seng Tower, Sushi Tei at Raffles City Shopping Centre and Facial Body Care at The Adelphi.

99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With 12 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Thursday, 60,161 cases – or 99.6 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 38 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while one of them is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 178 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from the 30 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Amongst the 154 confirmed cases reported from 26 March to 1 April, 50 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 71 have tested negative, and 33 serology test results are pending.
