3 killed, 6 injured, including MACC staff, in 2 Sarawak traffic mishaps


SIBU: Three people were killed, and six others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents in Mukah and Sarikei, yesterday.

Mukah district police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau said Edin Mil, 22, from Kapit and Jacky Jasam, 23, from Betong were killed; while Augustine Donul Gasan, 19, from Miri, sustained injuries when the lorry they were travelling in crashed at Km7 of Jalan Mukah-Balingian at around 7.30pm.

In the other incident, a woman was killed and her husband sustained a broken leg when their Proton Saga collided with a van carrying four Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) personnel, aged between 26 and 36.

The crash occurred at 4.10pm along Jalan Sarikei-Betong, about 16.8km from Sarikei town.

Sarikei district police chief Supt Mat Jusoh Muhammad said trader Normadiah Awie and Samarin Mat, both 57, were heading to Kabong from Sibu when their car was rammed into by the van carrying the MACC staff, which had skidded on the wet road and veered into the opposite lane.

The four MACC staff, who were heading to Bintulu from Kuching, sustained minor injuries. -- Bernama
