3 more Zambo City hostages rescued

Government forces rescued 3 more hostages being held by the armed men loyal to Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chair Nur Misuari in Zamboanga City.

Another member of the Misuari group was also killed in clashes Monday, while 7 soldiers were also wounded.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Public Affairs chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said the number of hostages in the hands of the Misuari group is down to 17.

Zagala also said the Misuari MNLF are now confined in a small area with only a few houses left that need to be cleared of Misuari’s followers. He explained that these houses need to be cleared before residents can be allowed to return to their homes.

“Sa area of constriction maliit na lang talaga masasabi natin na halos tapos na to. Kaya lang nagiingat tayo kasi alam natin may hostage sa loob,” Zagala said.

The conflict in Zamboanga is now on its 16th day. A total of 12 soldiers and 3 policemen have already died in the fighting. On the part of the Misuari MNLF group, 105 members have been killed while around 70 have been arrested.
