3 teenagers under police investigation over spit found on Rumbia LRT station lift
SINGAPORE — Three male teenagers are being investigated by the police for spitting on the buttons of a lift panel at Rumbia LRT station.
In a news release on Saturday (22 February), police said they received a report about the incident on Thursday. Through the use of images from police cameras and ground enquiries, the identity of the three suspects – all aged 15 – were established the following day.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenagers had spat at the said lift panel on 19 February 2020 at about 6.10pm,” said the police, adding that it takes a “serious view of such inconsiderate and irresponsible behaviour, especially in the current COVID-19 situation”.
Those convicted of mischief face jail terms of up to two years, a fine, or both.
On Thursday, Rumbia LRT’s operator SBS Transit shared an image of the supposed spittle covering the lift’s buttons on its Facebook page.
“This is an abhorrent act even under normal circumstances. In the present situation, it’s more than mischief,” said the company in the post, adding that it had made a police report.
The transport operator also noted in the post, which has been shared over 800 times, that the lift has since been cleaned and disinfected.
