So we finally have a new Spider-Man.

English actor Tom Holland, 19, beat off at least five other contenders, including one-time front-runner Asa Butterfield, to land the coveted role. The entire casting process saw more than 1,500 actors considered.

But who exactly is Tom Holland?

1. He’s worked with big stars

You might recall Holland from tsunami movie The Impossible (2012), where he played Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts’ son. He’ll next be seen in In The Heart Of The Sea alongside Chris Hemsworth a.k.a. Thor.

2. He’s the youngest actor to play Spider-Man

Oddly enough, this is the first time a teenager has been cast to play the teenage Peter Parker. Holland’s predecessors Tobey Maguire (27) and Andrew Garfield (26) were significantly older when they were cast.

3. He did screen tests with Captain America and Iron Man

It wasn’t just about Holland’s acting abilities, or looks, or charm, or charisma. He also had to have chemistry with his cast mates.

To that end, Holland did separate screen tests with both Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, who play (arguably) the two most popular Avengers. And he got the thumbs up in the end.
