300 flee government building after tile flooring explodes - Bernama

About 300 people ran for cover after the tile flooring of the Home Ministry building in Ayer Keroh, cracked and exploded today.

Twenty staff who were in the dining hall heard an explosion at 2.30pm and rushed down from level four of the government building.

The explosion damaged three metres of tile flooring.

Melaka Tengah deputy police chief Supt Muhammad Koey Abdullah said the staff gathered outside while firemen and Public Works Department (PWD) staff inspected the scene.

"The inspection found that the building did not suffer any structural damage, " he said.

Muhammad said PWD forensic experts would conduct further inspection to assess all safety aspects of the building, which was opened in 2007.

Meanwhile, Melaka Immigration Department director Kamalludin Ismail said he directed everyone to vacate the building at about 3pm as a safety measure. - Bernama, November 12, 2013.
