3,190 new COVID cases in Singapore, 9 more deaths

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (13 October) confirmed 3,190 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the country's total case count to 135,395, as well as nine more deaths due to the disease.

Wednesday marks the first in four days where authorities reported over 3,000 new cases in Singapore.

It is also the 24th day in a row with fatalities from COVID-19 reported here, with a total of 91 people here having succumbed to it thus far this month.

Singapore's 184th through 192nd fatalities were all Singaporeans: six men and three women aged between 52 and 98.

Among them, six had been unvaccinated against COVID-19, two had been partially vaccinated and one had been fully vaccinated.

Eight of them had various underlying medical conditions, while an unvaccinated case had no known medical conditions. The 52-year-old fatality had been partially vaccinated and had multiple underlying medical conditions, said the MOH.

Of the new cases, 3,184 are local infections: 2,686 are in the community and 498 reside in the migrant worker dormitories. The remaining six are imported. Among the local cases are 553 people aged above 60, said the MOH.

Two active COVID-19 clusters are being closely monitored, said the MOH.

The cluster at Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre now has 369 cases linked to it, including Wednesday's addition of two new infections. Of them, 340 are workers at the market, four are trade visitors and 25 are household contacts.

The other cluster, linked to MWS Christalite Methodist Home, now has 95 infections, including two new cases who have been isolated. Of them, 84 are residents while 11 are staff members.

300 require oxygen supplementation; 46 in ICU

As of Wednesday, 1,507 cases – or 6.9 per cent – are currently warded in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation. A total of 17,080 cases – or 77.8 per cent – are undergoing home recovery, while 2,885 cases are in community care facilities, and 473 are in COVID-19 treatment facilities.

There are currently 300 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation and 46 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Apart from the 192 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Over the last 28 days, of the 61,274 infected cases, 98.5 per cent had no or mild symptoms, 1.1 per cent required oxygen supplementation, 0.1 per cent required ICU care, and 0.2 per cent has died.

Among those who required oxygen supplementation and ICU over the last 28 days, 49.6 per cent were fully vaccinated and 50.4 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Among those who have died over the same period, 24.1 per cent were fully vaccinated and 75.9 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

As of Tuesday, about 9.52 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.61 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 4.55 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

To date, about 760,000 eligible individuals have been invited to receive their booster doses – 487,673 of them have received their booster shots while another 117,000 have booked their appointments.

Separately, 218,153 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Tuesday, covering 114,681 individuals.

This means that 84 per cent of the population have completed their full regimen or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 85 per cent have received at least one dose.
