4 men in Muar electrocuted while hanging party flags

MUAR: Four men were injured while trying to put up political party flags on a high voltage electrical line in Kampung Parit Yusof, near here early Sunday. In the 1am incident, the group of 10 men were said to be trying to position the flags on the electrical line using a bamboo pole. However, when four of them tried to lift the pole, they were electrocuted and thrown several metres away from the discharge. One of them was said to suffer broken ribs while the rest sustained minor injuries. Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip when contacted confirmed the incident. TNB, in a statement recently warned all political parties contesting in the 14th General Election to avoid hanging campaign materials on any of its facilities or infrastructures, or face possible action.

The company said the act poses danger due to the risk of being electrocuted, as well as power supply interruptions. This includes placing any campaign materials nearby TNB poles, cables, supply boxes, substations and other electrical installations. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
