An American MMA instructor was handed a four-year jail sentence on Thursday (2 March) for sexually assaulting two teenage girls.

According to a Channel NewsAsia (CNA) report, 39-year-old Joshua Robinson also filmed the assaults on the two 15-year-olds, whom he met separately through various social networking sites.

A raid on his apartment found 5,902 obscene films, including 321 films of child pornography. This is believed to be the largest collection of child pornography seized from an individual in Singapore, the CNA report said.

Robinson pleaded guilty to three charges of sexually assaulting the two teenagers, five for possessing obscene films and one for showing an obscene film to a six-year-old girl.

He was arrested in June 2015 after his second victim went to the police.

Victims found online

Robinson met his second victim on the MeetMe social networking site in early 2015 and the two exchanged phone numbers and nude photographs over time.

Claiming he was 27, he also began to pressure the teenager to meet him in person and described the sexual acts he would perform on her if they met.

The two eventually met on 23 June 2015 at Clarke Quay MRT station and he took her back to his home at Riverwalk Apartments. She was dressed in her school attire at the time as Robinson had told her that he had a fetish for girls in school uniforms.

At the apartment, the girl became nervous and called a friend. While on the phone, Robinson then took her into his bedroom and sexually assaulted her, while filming the act on camera.

Later that day the girl reported what had happened to her parents, who then brought her to the police. Robinson’s apartment was raided two days later, during which the obscene films were found.

Police also found a folder labelled “Fifteen” in which Robinson had saved a dozen films of himself having sex with his first victim, also a 15-year-old girl, whom he met on the OkCupid dating site in 2013. He had sexually assaulted her multiple times since September 2013.

Offended while out on bail

In July 2015, while out on bail, Robinson was at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Singapore’s gym at Peace Centre when he showed a six-year-old girl a video of his girlfriend performing a sexual act on him.

The girl’s father had been training at the gym at the time when Robinson approached her. He also told her not to tell anyone, although the girl informed her mother about the incident later that day.

Seeking a four- to five-year jail term, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Lai called Robinson a “sexual predator” who “groomed and morally corrupted his young victims”.

Lai added that Robinson had sexually assaulted both victims on their first meetings and said that he “should have known better” than to initiate “an illicit sexual affair with not one, but two 15-year-old girls”.
