KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-one journalists from Media Prima Berhad are among 101 local journalists vying to get into the final round of the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) Petronas Malaysian Press Awards 2016.
The 41 contestants include six from the New Straits Times, Berita Harian (7), BH Online (1), Harian Metro (13), TV3 (12), and TV9 (2).
Other contestants come from various media organisations such as Astro Awani, Bernama, Focus Malaysia, In Trend, Kosmo!, The Star, and Sinar Harian.
MPI, in a statement said, 79 journalistic works had been chosen to enter the final round. The works were submitted by contestants who entered on individual or group basis.
MPI is in the evaluation process to determine the winners in 20 categories contested.
The winner in each category will bag RM10,000 while the consolation winners will bring home RM1,000.
The best journalistic work across all categories will be named the Kajai winner, which comes with the cash prize of RM30,000, a trophy, as well as a certificate.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is slated to attend the 2017 Malaysian Press Night as the guest of honour, said the MPI.
The event will be held at Shang ri-La hotel here on April 21.
In total, the organiser said it has received 291 entries.
