4600 ships, maritime companies to receive boost from MPA initiatives

This includes issuing e-certificates directly to ships.

Singapore-registered ships and maritime companies are up to benefit from a slew of initiatives and service enhancements issued by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) this November.

This includes issuing of e-certificates directly to Singapore-registered ships.

MPA also introduced a new customer service hotline at (+65) 6-CALL-SRS (6-2255-777) which allows ships to contact for assistance in urgent cases related to crewing, registry and technical shipping matters.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed at the Singapore Registry of Ships forum last November 17 aiming to provide maritime companies listed on the SGX with training on sustainability reporting.

The maritime agency is also looking into developing technologies for remote-inspection techniques of ships such as aerial drones and ship inspecting robots. It plans to formulate acceptance criteria for the usage of similar technologies by first quarter next year.

"IoT, digitalisation and new technologies such as blockchain and smart drones are changing the way we work. To stay ahead, the Singapore Registry of Ships needs to embrace these technologies to offer value-added services to its customer," said MPA chief executive Andrew Tan.
